Strategic Pillars

Advocacy and Accountability

The ASAL Humanitarian Network (AHN) drives policy change and amplifies local voices through strategic advocacy and accountability efforts, ensuring ASAL community needs shape the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP)-Climate Nexus agenda.

By engaging with governments, legislators, international bodies, and humanitarian actors, AHN influences policies, strengthens transparency, and enhances aid and development effectiveness.

Key Initiatives:

✅ Policy Influence & Legislative Engagement – Advocating for policy reforms, engaging with decision-makers, and shaping laws, governance frameworks, and funding mechanisms to prioritize local leadership and equitable humanitarian response.

✅ Evidence-Based Advocacy & Transparency – Utilizing research, data, and impact assessments to track government and donor commitments, monitor aid effectiveness, and reinforce accountability at all levels.

✅ Public Awareness & Grassroots Mobilization – Driving campaigns that amplify local voices, highlight community impact stories, and elevate position of ASAL perspectives in global HDP-Climate discourse.

✅ Strategic Alliances & Multi-Stakeholder Engagement – Collaborating with civil society, local organizations, private sector actors, and development partners to influence policies and drive collective action.

✅ Capacity Strengthening for Local Advocacy – Empowering local actors and disaster-affected populations with the tools, knowledge, and networks to lead advocacy efforts and shape decision-making processes.

By forming strategic partnerships, strengthening accountability frameworks, and ensuring inclusive participation, AHN fosters sustainable, community-driven change and advances the localization agenda in ASAL regions.
