We believe that the strength of local institutions is fundamental to sustainable, accountable, and community-led humanitarian and development outcomes in ASAL regions. Through our Organizational Capacity Development (OCD) pillar, the ASAL Humanitarian Network (AHN) fosters the emergence of locally grounded institutions with the foresight, governance structures, and strategic resilience to lead transformative change.
AHN’s approach transcends operational fixes—focusing instead on long-term institution-building that positions local actors as trusted stewards of both resources and results. We support members to evolve into strategic leaders capable of shaping and driving multi-sectoral agendas in complex environments. Our investments are not just in people or systems, but in the legitimacy, autonomy, and adaptive capacity of local organizations to lead across the humanitarian–development–peace nexus.
We support member organizations to embed visionary leadership, inclusive governance, and long-term strategic planning into their institutional fabric. This includes board development, leadership succession, ethical oversight, and decision-making frameworks that uphold integrity and community trust.
We strengthen the foundational systems that underpin credible and effective institutions. This includes supporting AHN members to build agile, transparent, and digitally enabled administrative, financial, and compliance functions that can withstand shocks and meet complex partnership demands.
We position local organizations as credible, proactive, and ready partners—shifting from passive recipients to strategic co-creators in donor and multilateral engagements. We support readiness for due diligence, compliance alignment, and value-based partnerships that enhance visibility and influence.
